I saw a vid about Soviet bombers of WWII that were diesel powered. Thought THAT was nuts.

It was never called the "Kangaroo" by CAC or the RAAF, this is a modellers myth, and its not in any way related to the Mustang, its an evolution from the CAC Boomerang more influenced by the P-47 for most of its development other than a change to an inline Griffon V-12 in its final and physical format

Thanks, I do know of three expermental test beds that might have come close, but never produced, the main problem is there was never a compfehencice test made by any one, so valifating is going to be very hard. Any way thanks for all your hard work. Leona

I think around this time of the depression, Westland needed to maintain jobs for the work force and initiated dustbin manufacture. This was successful and another Westland group company called Westland Engineers was borne. One of the later post WW2 products was "Garador" which is still marketed today by Catnic.

I am surprised that your presentation didn't mention that in one version of the Pterodactyl, the wings had 2 positions one more swept than the other, adjustable in flight. This was documented in the first Edition of the Westland hard back book. I wonder if a claim of the first "swing wing" aircraft be a legitimate one for Westland? An interesting subject for an otherwise excellent video.

The aircraft may be called a Besler, I'm calling it a Doble for the purposes of the mechanicals. Basics of "Doble" as a company, like the Three Stooges, comprising of a rotating cast of brothers, with Abner being the eccentric genius, sadly they were better engineers than businessmen... they developed their models A through K (except I). This is complicated by the models A, B and G being built as "Detroit", and models A through F being cars, with G through K as larger designs. Models C through F were developments upon each other, with the letter generally designating a major alteration in design. The model E was seen as the peak in user-friendliness, fast in starting (minutes from cold to "usable" - enough to move at a dawdle) and on road, it did condense it's water with a 35% loss rate (most other condensing had a rate closer to 50%). The illusive Model F is also the last E chassis - defined as F due to it's significant differences to the majority of E's. The Model G and H were used in Buses, so were considerably larger... the Model J was used by Sentinel Waggons of Shrewsbury as a basis for their Columbian Locomotive.

The C-17 leveraged the YC15 and the DC10 programs. The DC10 contributed a lot to the power/Avionics/and maintainability.

I worked with Bessler's grand daughter about 15 years ago. She told some cool stories about him. Her parents have some of his drawings of engines and stuff.

Love that people are still learning about this and other real "scratchbuilt" (or mostly) aircraft. History shows that industrial independence is vital to maintain national independence - something the Aussies need to re-learn.

Steam. Must make a come-back for energy generation in the age of the gnostic-cult of evil and scientific no-science. Especially in areas with plenty of water. Its other highly efficient generation cousin is hydro-power. They need application in tandem. Solar (much improved) be an option in some other areas of the world - but not in industrialized and northern. Combining solar with steam is an option already for some locations.

The last action by the Vildebeest was actually after the attack on the Invasion fleet. On the night of 7th March the day before the Dutch surrender, 3 Vildebeest did a night raid on an airfield. My father, an Australian, was the navigator in one aircraft that was shot down. The gunner and my father parachuted out but the NZ pilot attempted to land the stricken plane and died in the crash. I presume the two aircraft that tried to fly to Ceylon were the other aircraft in that raid.

I'm fairly certain that Henry Maxim, who went on to invent the machine gun, built and flew for a very short distance a steam-powered airplane which he flew in a London park. I can't swear to the date but records definitely exist including a plan of his engine.

it's also worth noting that Wa State is basically Chinese at this point, they use mandarin Chinese as daily and official language, they use CNY as their currency, their Telecommuncations, and electricity, infrastructure is connected with China, you can even see at 9:40 the banner is written in Chinese for the UWSA army base.

I wonder how good a modern version could be with water recovery and the latest materials science and super-efficient radiators
